Ankash Necklace. A ceremonial brass pendant carrying the Ankash, the bird of ascension, from the stone of Chavín de Huántar.

In Chavín carving, the great raptor rarely appears alone. She is woven together with other beings: condor, eagle and falcon in one form, with feline fangs beneath the feathers. The Chavín people held the natural world as composite rather than divided. Their sacred beings carry what each animal teaches, held together in one body.

What the composite bird brings is altitude. The capacity to see from above. The intelligence that arrives when the small distinctions of the earthly world fall away.

Worn close to the heart, the Ankash is a quiet companion for the one who is learning to lift their gaze.

Each piece is drawn in Peru, in consultation with teachers in Áncash, and handcrafted in Bali by metalsmiths who shape each piece in wax before casting in brass. 5% of every sale returns to Yarpakuti Chawpin, the organisation in Áncash that keeps this tradition alive.

Each piece arrives in a KANTU pouch, with a story card and a care card.

Materials: solid brass. Chain length approximately 45 cm.

Adornment as Remembrance.
